Failed Kitchen Missions - Chewy Fig Slice

I've been wanting to try out this recipe from my fav recipe book for the longest time.... but tak jumpa cari fresh Fig fruit. Then, during raya my SIL, kak Anasalwa brought it from Abu Dhabi.... I was very happy!
This recipe sangat simple, no butter required... cooks in 20 mins aja... becoz it is very thin layer slice. Buat laaa dgn penoh kasih sayang.... but I had no baking soda. Sold out ...yang ada hanya baking powder....
Tak sabaq punya pasai, aku teruskan jugok. I dunno whether this is a factor or not... but the slices came out too hard. Mcm biskut gergasi!! Oh well.... cuba lagi..

Substituting in Recipes

You can substitute baking powder in place of baking soda (you'll need more baking powder and it may affect the taste), but you can't use baking soda when a recipe calls for baking powder. Baking soda by itself lacks the acidity to make a cake rise. However, you can make your own baking powder if you have baking soda and cream of tartar. Simply mix two parts cream of tartar with one part baking soda.
